BEEP-BEEP

“Come in.”
. Morverik waltzed in after I said that and began to speak.
. “Captain, I would like to work with Lt. Commander Sprint and have access to the main computer.”
. “May I ask why?” I ask the Romulan.
. “I believe that when we accountered the USS Voyager back in the Delta Quadrant, that it was our universe not a parallel one.”
. “What gives you that conclusion?”
. “I have been thinking that there aren’t many parallel universes. At least the ones we have traveled too. I believe that I could and can prove it.”
. “Well by all means then. When Lt. Commander Sprint gets on duty in 3 hours, I will tell her of you proposition.”
. “Thank you Captain.”
. “Don’t thank me about it. I knew some very good people on Voyager and I would like to think that they are still alive too.”
. After I said that he got up and left. When Lt. Commander Sprint came on, I told her what Morverik had told me. She agreed and went back to duty. When the computer notified her that Morverik was up, she contacted him and told him her answer. You could say he was “thrilled”.
. I have also let her have control over the ship sometimes. By what I mean is that I let her “borgified” components go into panels to let her get some things done faster. With most of her components still in, she needed energy to work efficiently, so we took the bed out of her quarters and put in a box type deal that allowed her to tap the ship’s energy. She loves the rabbit she has been put in charge of. The rabbit I am referring to is the one found in The Cargo Bay. We still don’t know where it came from in the first place.
. Then my thoughts were interrupted.
. “Captain, please come to the weapons bays as soon as possible.”
. “Is there anything wrong?”
. “As a matter of speaking yes there is.”
. “I am on my way. Captain out.”
. As I got on the bridge, the commander saw the urgency in my eyes and asked “Is there anything wrong captain.”
. “I don’t know. Keep the bridge, I will be in weapons bay if you need me.”
. “Yes captain,” he said with some uncertainty.
. When I got down to weapons bay everything looked fine until the Ensign at the console came up to me.
. “What is it?”
. “I was doing the standard weapons check and while working here in the holding area, I found this,” he said after taking to the holding area. “Curious as I am, I pressed it.”
. “And?”
. “I heard a noise.” I nodded for him to continue. “Yes captain.” After he pressed it, a noise that sounded like bay doors opening is what we heard. I walked out to the control room and saw something strange. There were three shuttle looking objects sitting there. They were armed with many weird looking objects.
. “Morverik and Lt. Commander Sprint to Weapons bay IMMEDIATELY!”
. When they got there, “Yes Captain?” As they said in unison.
. “What do you make of this?” I said as I turn around and showed them.
. “I don’t know,” said Morverik as his jaw fell to the ‘floor’.
. “Captain I didn’t have an indication of this space,” says Sprint, “But if I could get access into that area, I could maybe find some information about these ‘weapons’.”
. “By all means. I want this to remain quiet and I will notify the rest of the senior staff when you come up with the conclusion. Be careful!”
. “Yes captain.”
. I then went back to the bridge and was asked by the commander what was going on. I told him nothing when on but some things just went wrong in the weapons bay and it was needed to be brought to my attention. I don’t know if he let it go or not, he didn’t say anything more.
. Down in the bay, Lt. Sprint when through top to bottom of the holding area. Starfleet for some reason didn’t want us to know about them, the weapon shuttles. I was surprised that the sensors or anything else did not pick them up at all. The launch doors were on the bottom of the ship but still. Then Lt. Sprint found something.
. “Captain I found something.”
. “Okay, analyze it and be prepared to give me a briefing.”
. “But captain it says for your eyes only.”
. “Bring it up here and meet me in my ready room.”
. “Yes captain.”
. When Sprint and I adjourned to my ready room, the commander was confused even more.
. The not sprint was talking about was indeed only for me. It required my handprint and voiceprint. After I gave the pad on the box the required information, the box opened up. Inside was a letter for me, the captain.
. It read:
. ‘You the captain have finally found this. The area you beheld was a space containing three drones. The drones are shuttle-type weapons. They are computer run. These weapons are very powerful. Since you have read this you may only use them when needed or you can use them as escorts. We didn’t want to tell you of them because Starfleet has not approved them. The disk accompanying this letter will help you learn and use the drones.
. Signed,
. Admiral Bonnama Starfleet Headquarters Earth.
. “I want a senior staff meeting ASAP!” I said over the communications system.
. When we were finally assembled, Lt. Sprint gave us the details.
. “We haven’t hooked up the disk yet but the drones have certain programs. We know that they are not Starfleet issued and we shouldn’t use them unless there is a huge war or if we are in alien territory/unknown territory,” I say. “Lt. Sprint and Morverik are going to learn how to use them, then they will teach us.”
. “But why didn’t they tell us, we could have a full crew and less would have died!” said Chris.
. “I know that. My guess is that they aren’t Starfleet patented. Any other questions?”
. “Yes, just one, are they computer or man run?”
. “I know that they are computer run.” I say. After a pause I dismissed everyone except my heads of security. “Sprint and Morverik I want you to send out a probe and the drones. I want to see how they run. Also check out that disk.”
. “Yes captain.”
. Then they left leaving me alone in the room. I then got up and looked out the window. I wondered what else Starfleet has not told us about. Maybe I was dreaming and the one-fourth of my crew did not die. What was the meaning of my life? I was thinking like this for awhile until my thoughts were interrupted by Sprint’s voice. “Captain to Holodeck 3.”
. “On my way Fay.’’
. “When I got there, the holodeck computer was refusing to play a command until it received my authorization. I gave it my authorization and the picture of Admiral Bonnama came up. She walked towards me and then looked straight at me.
. “You finally found the secret. As you have read this matter must remain a secret. If word gets out about this I can’t even imagine what would happen. But enough of that, I want to tell you how to use our drones. There is a program after my somewhat of a speech. This program will tell you how to write a program and how to use the drones. If all goes well there shouldn’t be a problem. That’s all. If there are any questions, you can ask this hologram. It has been programmed to answer mostly anything.”
. “How come we were never notified?”
. “Because if Starfleet found out about it, others including myself would not know the outcome.’
. “But you know what, if we had those drones a few weeks ago before the war assisting the Romulans, my one-fourth of the crew would be alive not dead. Do you understand that?”
. “I console you on you loss.”
. “How do we run these?”
. “Mikhail Driesise was assigned to your ship to run them when told to.”
. “Captain, Mikhail Driesise was one of the one-fourth dead crew members.”-
. “Alright what do we do now?”
. “Well we will have to start from the beginning.”
. “I have no priorities at the moment. So let us begin.”
. “Okay this will take awhile but I know you captain, you can hold out.”
. After the admiral said that the hologram disappeared and our weapons control room appeared. Then the admiral appeared too and started showing us how to program it. Lt. Sprint has decided to start a simulator program training the few security members how to program them, the drones. After the program training ended the weapons control room disappeared and so did the admiral.
. The drones have three basic programs for the weapons usage. The lowest setting would be used for escorting. The medium setting would be used for both escorting while having some defense system. The highest setting would be used for battles. This setting is the most dangerous of all. The weapons consist of ion cannons, which destroys sensors and most weapon control on contact also neutralizing the ship; phasers, which are similar to ships phasers; torpedoes, photon and quantum. They have been tested through the most difficult situations and not yet have they been destroyed.
. Later, up on the bridge.
. “Helm, set course for Tarsus III.”
. “Yes captain.”
. When we got to Tarsus III we were welcomed unexpectedly.
. “Welcome Andromeda. Use docking port 5.”
. “Helm dock us.”
. “Yes captain.”
. “Your supply vessel will be here shortly. They got delayed in the Galsonian System.”
. “That’s okay, Commander _________?”
. “Juventud.”
. “Juventud?”
. “Yes why do you ask?”
. “Because a Lt. Commander Juventud is aboard my ship!” . “Ah you must be talking about my brother Ricardo. He and I both joined Starfleet, but I am older and he also carries a symboint. “
. “Well I don’t know where he is right this minute but he is off duty.”
. “That’s okay, I would like to see him before you go.” . “I will relay the message.”
. After he closed the connection, Ricardo Juventud came on the bridge.
. “Right on time as usual.”
. “Thank you captain.”
. “Your brother would like to see you sometime before we leave.”
. After I said that he looked like he was in shock.
. “Anything the matter?” asks Chris.
. “How can that be? My brother has been dead for ten years!”
. “Then how does he have the command of that station?” . “I don’t know.”
. “Morverik can you replay the conversation?”
. “I sure can captain. All set.”
. “Replay it.”
. After the whole message was replayed my top communications officer looked shocked.
. “Lt.?” No response. “Lt.?”
. “Sorry captain, but can we talk in private?”
. “Sure, in my ready room.”
. “Captain whoever that is, it’s not my brother.”
. “But he claimed to be your brother. How do you know?”
. “First of all, my brother did not join Starfleet. Second my brother did carry a symboint till they both died. My brother and the symboint are both buried on the home world.”
. “I see.”
. “The only thing that the imposter got right was that my brother was older than me. I am not talking about the symboint but he present host.”
. “Then who would act and try to be your brother?”
. “I don’t know. But why my expertise in communications, I ask your permission to start an investigation.”
. “Permission granted. How about you go see him to. He asked to see you.”
. “I will after the investigation is under way.”
. “Okay. Anything else I should know about first?”
. “Nothing hat I can think of. I will keep you informed throughout the process.”
. “Okay. Dismissed.”
. After he left I walked out of my ready room and went to sickbay.
. “Kelly, do you detect any danger?”
. “Yes and no.”
. “Please explain!”
. “The no part is this very minute but I do sense something unsettlingly in the future.”
. “Thank you. A word of advice! Go to bed!”
. “I am trying to. It has been really hard for the last few days!”
. “I understand. If all goes well I will see you Friday at the set time in the holodeck.”
. “I know.”
. Then I left. Meanwhile in the weapons bay, the security chiefs were working very hard to understand all the programs of the drones.
. “I still don’t understand why the heads of Starfleet never told us!”
. “I think I have an excellent idea why,” she says. “Starfleet never really keeps anything from the operating crews unless they don’t want word about the occasion to get out. Only four crewmembers were trained for the Prometheus.”
. “The Prometheus? What ship is that?”
. “Opps, you never heard anything about that ship from me!”
. “Fay tell me!”
. “I can not. I could be court martial!”
. “I could tell Starfleet what you told me!”
. “Is that a bribe or a blackmail?”
. “I say a little of both.”
. “I see no point in continuing this conversation.”
. “All right but please tell me all you can!”
. “Fine. The Prometheus is a prototype ship like ours. They do not have any drones or transwarp but they have other defense modes and do have faster warp capabilities like us.”
. “That’s it? How come I never knew about this an you did?”
. “I am one of the four trained officers. I was to be transferred to that ship but instead the captain wanted me and transferred me here. For some reason Starfleet did not stop the transfer but wanted it.”
. “I see. So do you have access to that ship?”
. “Yes but I can not tell you anymore.”
. “One more question.”
. “All right.”
. “Do you or are you informed about the condition of the ship?”
. “Yes I am.”
. “Can you tell me any of the latest breaking news?”
. “An alien race took hostile actions and killed the skeleton crew. Then they hijacked the ship to go back to their space. An EMH program from another ship was able to get aboard and retake the ship.”
. “Which alien race was it?” She then looks at him vexed. “All right this is the last one I promise.”
. “The-,” she pauses for a minute unsure what she will say will hurt him, “The Romulans.”
. “That’s absurd!”
. “I know what it sounds like but that’s the truth.”
. “Well if you could please excuse me I must go for awhile and think this over. I will be back soon.”
. “Alright.”
. “Dad is what I heard true?”
. “Yes I am afraid so son. When we were exiled from the Romulan Territory, I knew something was up.”
. “What do you mean that the found out about our family slipping secrets?”
. “No probably not. They knew someone was leaking. I don’t know why but I had a feeling that they are going to do something awful and didn’t want anyone to know about it.”
. “I see. Take care I have another transmission.”
. “Take care son.’’
. “I will. Andromeda out.”
. After the slipping father left, an unfamiliar Starfleet officer appeared on screen.
. “Mr. Morverik. I presume.”
. “That’s me. How can I help you?”
. “The information you requested has been approved. It will be sent as soon as possible.”
. “Thank you.”
. On the station, the supposed brothers were in the commander’s office.
. “Who are you?”
. “What do you mean?”
. “Your not my brother.”
. “How can you account for that, Ricardo?”
. “You idiot of an imposter. My brother has been dead for ten years and he carried a symboint!”
. “Well you were wrong brother. I never died and I never carried a symboint.”
. “Well you look different anyway.”
. “It’s been then years since you saw me when you ran away to Starfleet.”
. “Another lie. I was an ensign when you died and I can prove it too.”
. He then took out a disk and played it. The brother was extremely shocked. “I am your brother. What can I do to prove it to you?”
. “The Blood-Handshake.”
. “What about it?”
. “Tell me what we used to use is for and perform it.”
. The imposter looked shocked and surprised. He never thought of that one so he improvised. “This has to end. My station needs my attention at this moment.” He said as he stood up and started towards the door when Ricardo pushed him up against the wall and said, “We settle this now!”
. “I could call security about this.”
. “Go ahead and hide behind security. Oh I wouldn’t try to contact them, your head of security is busy in the cargo bay at the moment.”
. “What?”
. “Tell me and perform the Blood-Handshake.”
. “I will risk the life of the symboint.”
. “Another lie. For being in assumed trill form, you would understand blood is a small necessity for the symboint.” . “Right I----I was testing your knowledge.”
. “Confess right now. You don’t know anything about the life of the trill, and you don’t know the Blood-Handshake.”
. “Look it’s been over ten years since I performed that handshake so give me a break.”
. “Show me the scar!”
. “I had the scar surgically removed,’’ Right after the imposter said that, the real Juventud got up and left.
. “Captain, there is another coded message.”
. “On my way.”
. When I got there the drone control screen was flashing. “Let’s see it.”
. AUTHORIZATION IS NEEDED FROM LEVEL CLEARANCE 10.
. “Captain Therese Vitullo Tau Sigma 3.”
. AUTHORIZATION ACCEPTED. FILE PLAYBACK.
. “There is one more thing. Ensign Hobson has the knowledge and headset to operate the drones. The program name is HYPE. He has more information. Bonnama out.”
. “Computer locate Ensign Hobson.”
. ENSIGN HOBSON IS NOT ONBOARD.
. “Fay?”
. “He was one of the dead crew members.”
. “Let’s go the headset might still be in his quarters.”
. We search his quarters and came up with a headset and a note. Apparently if Ensign Hobson died, Lt. Maijala was to take his place. Lt. Maijala was not working on the ship at the moment for he was on a month of shore leave due to end in three days.
. Now back on the bridge.
. “Captain top priority message from Starfleet.”
. “Play it.”
. “Captain Vitullo of the Andromeda, once you have received all your supplies from Taursus III, set course for the Delta Quadrant. The USS Voyager is alive. Copy back.”
. “This is the Andromeda. We will set course for the Delta Quadrant and leave in three days. Out.”
. They then went out and everyone onboard realized what happened. That was the USS Voyager for real when we accountered it before in the Delta Quadrant. Morverik dropped his studies now knowing that is was real not a theory anymore.
. “As soon as Lt. Maijala returns, set course for the Delta Quadrant, Transwarp. Use the flight trajectory path from the last encounter.”
. “Aye captain. It will be awhile before I can come up with the coordinates,” says Lt. Commander Schreiber.
. After Lt. Commander Sabrina Schreiber said that, Ricardo walked on the bridge.
. “Captain, I think I have an answer. The imposter is a changeling of some sort. I do not yet have a solid proof but when I asked him to do my brother’s Blood-Handshake, he got nervous and tried to steer from the conversation. I also contacted my family back on the home world and they were puzzled too. They went and dug up the remains of my brother and we can confirm his death.”
. “Morverik, now I want a full investigation and reopen that channel to Starfleet.”
. “Yes captain. I have downloaded the file on the Commander of Taursus III.”
. I looked at it and then when the admiral presiding at Starfleet, I told him, “Admiral we have an imposter with in Starfleet. The information from Ricardo, the brother of the deceased, and the information here does not add up.”
. “I see. Can we tell if the ‘real’ Juventud is lying or not?”
. “There have been many lie detecting tests and telepathy going on. If I didn’t say so myself, Ricardo is going to bring this imposter to justice for scandalizing the Juventud name. My question is how shall we proceed?”
. “Take a blood sample and a bone sample, if they do not line up with the remains of the deceased, have the stations security chief lock him up until further contact with headquarters.”
. “Yes admiral, Andromeda out.”
. After the discussion with headquarters I contacted my senior staff and told them what was going on. They came up with a plan to show/reveal the imposter.
. Plan A started to unravel quite well. In the medical bay onboard Tarsus III, the commander was pacing then the station’s chief medical officer walked into the room. “I am sorry about doing this commander but I need to check to see if you have gotten the bug.”
. “The bug?”
. “Andromeda carried a virus from another region of space. It remained temperate for some reason. The only people so far infected are the trill. You brother has gotten it and we want to make sure you didn’t.”
. “But I feel fine!”
. “I know you do but it can strike you down fast. Now hold still,” he says as he extracts a blood sample and bone sample. He then went to his office. Then he looked at the samples only to find that they had liquefied. He then went back out to the commander.
. “You have gotten the bug. You will need to be confined to sickbay.” With that said the changeling took up a cart and hit the medical officer only to find it a hologram. He then tried to liquefy and exit but all ventilation to the medical bay was sealed and the doors locked. Then a vacuum started to suck the changeling into a container. He was finally sealed up for good. He was confined in the brig under a special force field. He remained there until Starfleet was able to come out and get him.
. We then enjoyed the last days on the station for shore leave, until Lt. Maijala returned. He was not willing to be the guinea pig now and ever but when he saw our need he agreed. He despised wearing the headset because he complained that it didn’t fit well.
